5 reasons to skip going abroad this summer holiday

Jul 11, 2022

The words ‘holiday’ and ‘going abroad’ are almost synonymous in the minds of many Brits. We love to hop on a flight to mainland Europe or America whenever we get the chance.

Travelling overseas can be amazing, but when planning a holiday for your family during the school holidays, the logistical aspects involved can often dampen the merriment. In 2022, with the cost of living rising, flights being cancelled and the ongoing coronavirus crisis, there has never been a better time to consider staying in England for your holiday.

Here at Middlewood Farm, we ask: why go abroad when there is so much to be seen in the UK?

1/ Keep travel costs down

It’s no secret that travelling abroad can cost an arm and a leg. There’s flight costs, taxi fares, hotel prices and a number of other expenses that need to be considered when funding a holiday overseas.

With a holiday in the UK, this can all be avoided, and the change spared can be used to book fun-filled activities, eat at local restaurants and support independent businesses by treating yourself to more lavish souvenirs.

2/ Reduced stress

After the Easter holidays, many airports were thrown into chaos, and flight cancellations at major airlines have only continued into the summer. The heightened tourist volume into the school holidays will only make this worse.

By choosing to holiday in England during peak travel season, you can easily avoid this stress as well as push any thoughts of travel insurance, travel visas and booking vaccines to the back of your mind.

3/ Easier with children

When taking your children on holiday, you want to focus on spending quality time with them, and not worry about whether you’ve forgotten to pack something important or whether they’re going to be stressed during the flight. Staying in the UK is the perfect solution to this.

Travelling in England gives you the opportunity to take breaks when required on the journey, and you won’t need to pay additional baggage allowance for essentials such as pushchairs or car seats. You can also choose when you set off, which avoids exhausting young children by waking them up at the crack of dawn for a flight.

This way, you’ll be able to truly appreciate your time with happy, content and excited little ones.

Furry friends welcome

4/ Furry friends welcome

If you’ve ever attempted to get a dog on a flight then you’ll understand why most holiday goers choose to leave their furry companion in the hands of a trusted dog-sitter. A staycation allows the possibility of putting both of these options in the past.

Your dog deserves a holiday just as much as you, and they’ll revel in the freedom that the great English countryside brings. The luxury of fresh air, vast rolling fields and plenty of exciting new smells will prevent them from ever wanting to go home.

5/ There’s plenty of adventure in the UK

England is often overlooked for its scenery, but the truth is our humble little island is filled with wonder; all you have to do is look for it.

Amongst the breathtaking landscapes that have been fascinatingly forged lies thousands of years worth of architectural movement and skill. From coastal fishing towns steeped in history, culture and the waft of salty ocean air to tranquil hideaways nestled deep in the heart of treasured nature reserves and mountainous peaks; we have everything.

Here at Middlewood Farm, we are honoured to be situated only a stone's throw from both of these gorgeous adventures. When you book a holiday in one of our holiday caravans, glamping pods or motorhomes, you too will be able to experience their beauty whilst leaving the stress of holidaying abroad behind you.
